Kelworth Supports Wreaths Across America

Health Insurance Available for Drivers

4.8.2011

One of the excellent benefits that Kelworth offers to employees and their families that often goes unnoticed is health insurance. Health coverage is available to all employees after 6 months of employment, and a variety of policies exist, from employee-only policies to full family coverage.

In addition to regular health insurance, employees may also sign up for additional insurance through Aflac after just 30 days of employment. Aflac offers a wide range of policies, including cancer coverage, hospital stay protection and vision. They also offer packages which are especially useful for our drivers, such as dental and short term disability. We have had several drivers take advantage of their flagship policy, Accident Indemnity Coverage, which will pay you cash if you are out of work due to an accident. In a time of stress when you can’t work, it is extremely handy to know that the financial burden is greatly reduced with health insurance and Aflac coverage.

Give Jayme in accounting a call today to find out more information on any of these smart insurance options.

Oklahoma to get New Weigh Stations

1.24.2011

Oklahoma is one step closer to constructing a group of state-of-the-art stations that would weigh commercial vehicles as they speed along the highway.

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission provided the state Department of Transportation with $10 million Monday to complete the building of two highway weigh stations, also known as ports of entry.

The money will help fund construction on two recently approved weigh stations. One is located on Interstate 40 in Beckham County and the second is located on Interstate 35 in Kay County.

They’ll be followed by the building of seven other ports of entry, which ODOT officials said will be designed to stop only those trucks that are operating illegally or in an unsafe manner.

“The benefit is (most) trucks don’t have to stop,” said Mike Patterson, ODOT deputy director. “They pass the station at 65 mph or 75 mph and commerce keeps rolling.”

A key part of the new stations will be located on the highway two miles before the station itself. That’s where trucks will be weighed electronically, Patterson said.

If a truck weighs more than the limit, a message will direct the driver into the approaching station. There, they’ll either be weighed again or inspected. All other traffic will simply pass by.

Currently, all trucks are asked to enter Oklahoma’s weigh stations during operational hours. An ODOT report said those stations average more than 40 years old and are antiquated.
